Arsenal latest: Bruno Guimaraes transfer update as midfielder's stance on move clear

Arsenal are facing a tough summer transfer window but a permanent deal is edging closer

Arsenal's summer transfer business has stalled after three signings that have done little to satisfy fan demand for high-profile reinforcements.

Progress on key targets has been slow and the calibre of arrivals so far has fallen short of expectations in N5. The £34.5m permanent acquisition of Piero Hincapie, formalised last month, had been agreed the previous summer.

Free agent goalkeeper Illan Meslier then arrived from Leeds United as a third-choice option, before Arsenal completed their most notable new piece of business with the £34m signing of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge. The Greek international, 24, offers some promise following Leandro Trossard's departure, but he is still not the world-class attacking addition that manager Mikel Arteta and owner Josh Kroenke had publicly hinted at delivering at the end of last season.

The Premier League champions have tried to limit reckless spending in the face of inflated asking prices, but that financial restraint has cost them. Jeremy Monga and Morgan Rogers, both strongly linked with Arsenal, ultimately completed moves to Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

Fabio Vieira 'hopeful' of move

Sky Sports Germany reports that Hamburger SV and Arsenal are in contact over a deal that would see Fabio Vieira make a permanent move to the Bundesliga outfit. The report claims concrete figures have now been discussed between the two clubs.

Vieira himself is claimed to be 'hopeful' that an agreement can be struck, having spent last season on loan with Hamburg. The Portuguese playmaker, 26, was instrumental for the side throughout the campaign, contributing seven goals and five assists in the Bundesliga alone.

He is said to admire the club, the city and the coach, with a permanent switch being his preferred outcome. In the meantime, Vieira has returned to Arsenal for pre-season training while all parties continue to work towards resolving his future.

Newcastle respond to £70m 'offer'

Newcastle are reportedly running out of patience with Arsenal over their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes. Recent reports have suggested that the Gunners are set to submit a £70m bid in an attempt to secure the services of the Brazilian midfielder.

However, this figure falls short of Newcastle's valuation of their 28-year-old captain and looks almost certain to be turned down. After six weeks of transfer speculation surrounding Guimaraes, those in charge at St James' Park are said to be increasingly exasperated by Arsenal's failure to table any genuine approach.

Sky Sports reports that the club's stance is clear - they will not waste time over the midfielder if Arsenal do not submit a serious financial offer. A bid of £80m is reportedly considered the bare minimum, while £85m could potentially force Newcastle into an uncomfortable decision, having already lost key players Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon this summer.

Guimaraes is understood to have communicated to Arsenal his desire to move to north London, yet has stopped short of agitating for a departure in the manner Alexander Isak did last year. Whether the World Cup star reports for pre-season training with Newcastle next week in La Manga remains to be seen.
