Arsenal are continuing their work in the transfer window as one left-winger looks set to head to north London. Piero Hincapie and Illan Meslier have already penned permanent deals, with Christos Tzolis moving fast to become the Gunners' third summer signing.

Mikel Arteta will hope to successfully defend their Premier League title and will also welcome back stars out representing their countries at the World Cup. David Raya , Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi will face Argentina in the final on Sunday as the last few Gunners still in the tournament.

But focus on the transfer window may have waned as Arsenal missed out on a £34million deadline for a long-term target. The north London side have also now suffered a damaging blow to their transfer plans with Chelsea hijacking their pursuit of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa .

Here, Mirror Football has all the latest coming out of the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal's pursuit of Rogers has come to a sudden halt after Chelsea swooped in to strike a mega-money deal with Aston Villa.

The Athletic reported how Xabi Alonso was instrumental in convincing the England international to agree a switch to Stamford Bridge instead of the Emirates, despite the Gunners being champions.

A £130m valuation was put on Rogers by Villa, and Chelsea will ultimately spend a whopping £117m to bring the former Manchester City youth to west London, with a medical set for Monday, once he returns from the World Cup.

Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy has been a target for Arsenal for quite some time. However, his £34m release clause has reportedly expired, leaving Arteta without an option to secure the striker on a cheaper fee.

Guirassy was said to have a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave Germany for just £34m (€40m) but this ran out on July 15. This means that if Arsenal do go on to make a move for the 30-year-old, they may have to fork out much more.
