It is easy to think that the World Cup kicks into life and transfers just fade into the background - but that's far from being the case.

England boss Thomas Tuchel was happy for players to conduct their transfer dealings provided it didn't interfere with the team's plans, which is exactly what Elliot Anderson did as he secured a club-record move to Manchester City.

But what about the moves that didn't involve nine-figure sums changing hands? Don't think for a second that clubs sat waiting for the World Cup's hidden gems to reveal themselves, oh no, they've been working away and getting deals done.

Xabi Alonso has made his first Chelsea signing and amid all the noise about their best players leaving Newcastle have actually spent more than £40million on new talent.

Now that the tournament in North America is over and players have shown what they can do on the biggest stage deals are expected to ramp up. Morgan Rogers' British-record move to Chelsea an example. Bradley Barcola, Yan Diomande, Ferran Torres and Ayyoub Bouaddi could all end up being the subjects of some mega money moves.

But here's a number of deals you may well have missed whilst watching the World Cup as clubs up and down the Premier League look to bolster their ranks.

Arsenal have been in the market for a new back-up goalkeeper and have landed Illan Meslier, who was available on a free after his contract at Leeds expired. Alonso is the new man in charge at Chelsea and the Blues are no strangers to the transfer market. They landed Atalanta full-back Marco Palestra, who was set to move to Inter Milan before the Premier League side showcased their financial power by securing his services.

He was previously named the Serie A Defender of the Year off the back of an impressive season on loan at Cagliari and the 21-year-old was signed at the request of Alonso with Palestra capable of playing in a back four and a back three.

Newcastle's transfer window has been a disaster - selling Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali whilst they also missed out on Victor Munoz, who opted for Liverpool instead. But they did manage to secure a deal for Hoffenheim's Ivorian winger Bazoumana Toure.

They paid good money to land the 20-year-old, who came up 12 assists in Germany last season, and they will hope to see him blossom over the coming years.

The Welshman continued to make headlines last term as he came up with big goal after big goal, several of them showcasing real quality - and every time he or his then manager were asked if and when he would sign a new deal at Fulham.

Wilson ultimately decided against and sought a new challenge with Leeds, who consolidated themselves in the top flight last term, winning the race for a player who landed 11 goals and a further eight assists in all competitions last season.
