Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin has been approached by a consortium looking to purchase a share in Liverpool . Saverin, 44, is understood to have a net worth of around £24.3billion.

Were he to involve himself in investing in the club, he would become the third wealthiest owner/co-owner in the Premier League. Only Newcastle United's Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund owners (£723.3bn) and Manchester City's 'City Football Group' bosses (£24.5bn) would boast a bigger net-worth than Saverin.

In 2022, Saverin was part of a consortium which failed in an attempt to takeover Chelsea after Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club.

His £24.3bn net worth, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, would be more than welcome by the consortium looking to purchase a stake in the club. It's understood the syndicate could look to become the second-largest shareholder at Anfield.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was also reported as another potential investor in the aforementioned consortium. At present, nothing has been decided in regards to Saverin being involved in the consortium.

What is known is that it's currently being spearheaded by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. The figure the consortium may look to purchase is understood to be around 30 per cent.

Fenway Sports Group have been the majority stakeholders in Liverpool since 2010. A potential purchase could value the Reds at a whopping $6bn (£4.5bn) which would rank amongst the most lucrative deals in English football history.

At present, Chelsea's takeover by the BlueCo consortium is the largest club purchase in English football history. When they won the bidding process at Stamford Bridge, the purported sale was worth around £4.25bn.

A spokesperson for FSG said last week: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."

In 2023, Dynasty Equity purchased a small stake which valued Liverpool at $4.5bn. This came one year after the club said they were open to a full sale of the club, which was confirmed in a statement.

At the time, they said: "FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions, we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club."
