Hull City were warned about road before Thomas overturned car outside training ground

A local councillor says he asked Hull City to warn their new players of the dangers of the road outside their training ground just days before Sorba Thomas' crash.

Thomas, who joined Hull from Stoke on transfer deadline day in a £10.5million deal, was involved in a collision on Millhouse Woods Lane on Friday morning, remarkably escaping the scene "completely unscathed".

The residential road is just a stone's throw from Hull's training ground. Two other cars were damaged in the incident. Hull issued a statement to "reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed."

Meanwhile, Humberside Police confirmed they were "in attendance following reports of a road traffic collision" and advised motorists to avoid the area. The incident comes the day before Hull face Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge and the proximity of the crash to the training ground meant their team coach was delayed in leaving for London.

Local councillor Phil Redshaw visited the scene of the crash on Friday. He told The Mirror there have been “a few near misses” recently down the road in Cottingham, a suburb of Hull.

He added: “I wrote to the Hull City club secretary on Sunday asking them to remind players to be careful driving down the road because of the residents’ concerns. I wanted them to remind their staff to drive with extra care, because they get new players in every season.”

Hull City referred to their statement when asked about councillor Redshaw's comments.

Redshaw says he visited residents of Millhouse Woods Lane on Friday to warn them about the dangers of the road, with gardens backing directly onto the pavement where “lorries have no option but to go" in order to get past.

Thomas was one of 17 new players to sign for Hull this summer following their promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs. The Tigers were the busiest club in the Premier League this summer, with their 17 incomings the most of any side, while their net spend of £160m put them fourth in the division.

The 27-year-old Wales international has made two appearances for The Tigers so far, making his Premier League debut in the goalless draw with Aston Villa on the weekend before starting in the 1-0 defeat by Sunderland in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Hull have made a brilliant start to the top-flight campaign, keeping three successive clean sheets to beat Manchester United and Coventry and draw with Villa. Sergej Jakirovic's side sit third in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge for Saturday's 3pm kick-off.
