Leeds United Predicted XI vs Newcastle as Daniel Farke Plans Reset

Leeds United need a response, simple as that. After the chaos of the 6-3 defeat at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, attention turns back to the Premier League and a home game with Newcastle on Monday, 14 September. Daniel Farke rotated heavily in midweek, eight changes in all, and the result was a mess after a promising opening spell.

For 50 minutes, Leeds were in control at Stamford Bridge. Then the game swung, Farke reacted too slowly to Xabi Alonso’s changes and Leeds were punished. That should sharpen the focus for Newcastle. League form has been decent without being rewarding, draws against Brighton and Brentford have left Leeds wanting more, and these next two home fixtures matter before the international break.

Predicted Leeds United XI

James Trafford is expected to return in goal, replacing Michael Zetterer. That part is obvious. In front of him, Leeds are likely to restore a more familiar defensive unit. James Justin and Tarik Muharemovic should keep their places, while Jayden Bogle, Nico Elvedi and Gabriel Gudmundsson are tipped to come back in and complete the five-man shape.

That would mean Jaka Bijol and Melvin Bard dropping out. It makes sense. Leeds need a bit more structure and a bit less improvisation.

Midfield Selection Calls

Ethan Ampadu will continue as captain and should anchor midfield. Alongside him, Ao Tanaka looks set to return after Sean Longstaff struggled in the cup tie. Further forward, Anton Stach may keep his place after bringing useful power and presence higher up the pitch in recent matches.

There are tougher calls around the attacking midfield spots. Brenden Aaronson scored at Chelsea, but his general play lacked care. Harry Wilson has yet to fully settle since arriving from Fulham. Noah Okafor, by contrast, offers directness and should start.

Attack Must Deliver

Up front, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to lead the line again, continuing the ongoing rotation with Lukas Nmecha. Leeds have gone three matches without a win, but the bigger issue is efficiency. The chances are there. The finishing has not been.

This is where Leeds have to be blunt with themselves. Pretty passages and encouraging moments mean very little without points. At home, against a strong Newcastle side managed by Matthias Jaissle, Leeds need to be far more ruthless.
