Liverpool finally given green light to sign their next Fabinho

The last couple of years have been full of heavy spending for Liverpool.

The Anfield outfit have now spent well over £500 million on trying to improve their ranks and, although things finally came together against Ipswich on Friday, the real test will be when they aren't facing a recently promoted team.

One of the main things that fans will want to see from their team this season will be a trophy.

Whether it's the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup or the Champions League, as long as there's a piece of silverware entering Liverpool's cabinet, fans will be happy.

Obviously, a trophy is a lot to ask from Andoni Iraola's first season in charge but, with the quality that they now have among their ranks, it shouldn't be seen as an unreachable goal.

And, if the latest transfer news to emerge from Anfield is accurate, the Reds should easily be able to get a trophy over the line in the future.

Liverpool can sign Adam Wharton in January

One of the main positions that Liverpool's fans thought that their team would look to improve was their midfield.

Last season, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch both massively under-performed and, while others such as Dominik Szoboszlai tried their best to make up for their short-comings, Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League table.

So, with this in mind, to most fans, it felt like a new number six or, at least a new central midfielder should have been one of the Reds' top priorities.

But, instead, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch were both given new deals and, while Mac Allister missed out, it's now been made clear that this was not what the Argentinian wanted.

Despite all this, since there's still room for a new central midfielder among Liverpool's ranks, it's hardly surprising to see TEAMtalk now link the Reds with a new defensive-midfielder with the potential to sign him in January becoming a reality.

"Adam Wharton is still expected to leave Crystal Palace in one of the next two upcoming transfer windows, with sources stating that a move could take place as early as January, and with Liverpool very much on high alert because of the star’s ambitious career-trajectory plan, sources have revealed," they wrote.

"Indeed, Liverpool decided that their transfer focus this summer lay on strengthening other areas of the team, with the wing positions and defence seen as more pressing priorities.

"Ultimately, that summer move for Wharton never materialised, despite some hefty fees being spent on midfield recruits.

"Palace, for their part, were determined not to sell, choosing instead to keep one of their most important assets.

"However, sources believe it is highly unlikely they will be able to retain him beyond the forthcoming winter window, or, most likely, the summer of 2027."

Adam Wharton could very easily be Liverpool's next Fabinho

When Fabinho exited Anfield, everyone thought that he'd be instantly replaced.

However, for an entire season, Jurgen Klopp was forced to use Mac Allister as a number six and, while he did well, when he was used in his proper position the season after, he performed much better.

And, even now, three years on from the Brazilian's exit, he still hasn't been replaced.

Indeed, Gravenberch has been relied on to fill that gap but, last season proved that he was not cut out to be a Premier League number six.

So, the fact that a deal for Wharton could become a reality in January is extremely exciting.

Not only is his passing ability top tier but, he can also put in a more than solid tackle and is arguably one of Crystal Palace's most important players.

Obviously, it would cost Liverpool a decent chunk of change to get a deal over the line but, on the face of things, there isn't really anyone better than Wharton for the Anfield outfit, especially with how long the Reds have tracked him for.
