Matt Doherty targets Premier League return after Sheffield United move

Matt Doherty has set his sights on a Premier League return after signing a one-year deal with Sheffield United following his Wolves exit.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 34-year-old full-back joined on a free and the contract includes an option for a further 12 months.
He will face his former club in the second tier this season and is targeting promotion under Chris Wilder. "I'm backing the manager to get the club back into the Premier League and I'm guessing that is the goal for everyone at the end of the day. I believe in him and what he's saying to me, and I know he'll believe in his players.”
The Republic of Ireland international, capped 53 times, made 389 Wolves appearances across two spells, from 2010 to 2020 then 2023 to 2026. Between those stints he played for Tottenham and Atletico Madrid.
Signed from Bohemians in 2010 for £75,000, he won League One and Championship titles with Wolves and featured in Europe. The club hailed him as a 'club legend' when he departed this summer.
Sheffield United finished 13th in the Championship last season. Wilder said the defender knows what success requires, remains a model professional with real drive, and he expects him to set standards and lift the squad as a culture carrier.
