Pat Nevin singled out an under-fire Manchester United star for praise following Sunday’s pulsating 2-2 draw against Everton.

The Red Devils looked on course for a second consecutive win when Benjamin Sesko struck with just three minutes remaining, powering a header beyond Jodran Pickford following a superb run and cross from the overlapping Luke Shaw.

United’s long-serving full-back endured a difficult start to the new season when he struggled badly in a 2-0 opening weekend defeat against newly promoted Hull City.

Michael Carrick, however, has maintained his faith in the left-back despite facing criticism for failing to sign another left-back during the closing stages of the transfer window.

Shaw repaid his manager’s confidence with a superb all-round display against the Toffees, providing a threat in attack and coming close to sealing all three points with a brilliant late block.

Everton’s pressure ultimately told in injury-time when debutant Ainsley Maitland-Niles equalised with a stunning strike from distance, but former Everton winger Nevin was impressed with a performance from Shaw that rolled back the years.

‘Luke Shaw should be delighted with his work,’ Nevin told the BBC. ‘The reaction from Shaw was superb. He can go home happy with his effects today.

‘Benjamin Sesko, very well done. Luke Shaw down the left-hand-side has been phenomenal today.

‘Tyrique George did not manage to go with him, and Shaw gets an easy cross in. George knows it was his man that left him.’

A point maintained Everton’s unbeaten start to the season which has come amid serious unrest among a fanbase which has voiced its dissatisfaction with at an uninspiring transfer window.
