Real Madrid 4-1 Rayo Vallecano: Mbappé brace powers Madrid past Rayo after Betis setback

Real Madrid returned to winning ways in LaLiga with a 4-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Bernabéu, with striker Kylian Mbappé scoring twice for José Mourinho’s side.

Mbappé opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Real Madrid left-back Álvaro Carreras and midfielder Jude Bellingham made it 3-0 before half-time. Rayo Vallecano striker Sergio Camello pulled one back shortly after the restart, but Mbappé struck again in stoppage time to complete the scoring.

Rayo produced the first meaningful effort, with winger Giorgi Tsitaishvili forcing Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois into a low save in the ninth minute. Madrid responded soon afterwards when Vinícius Júnior released Álvaro Carreras into the area and Rayo defender Florian Lejeune brought him down.

Kylian Mbappé took the resulting penalty in the 14th minute and sent Rayo goalkeeper Emil Audero the wrong way to put Madrid ahead.

The hosts doubled their advantage only three minutes later. Lejeune misplaced a pass back towards his goalkeeper and Mbappé collected the loose ball before finding Carreras, who moved into the area and finished with his left foot.

Madrid added a third in the 35th minute. Real Madrid winger Vinícius cut the ball back from the left and Jude Bellingham was left unmarked inside the box, allowing the England international to place his finish beyond Audero.

Rayo started the second half with more purpose and Pedro Díaz struck the post from distance before Sergio Camello reduced the deficit in the 51st minute. Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger lost possession while trying to play forward, leaving Camello free to collect the loose ball and finish underneath Courtois.

The visitors continued to threaten, with Tsitaishvili forcing another save from Courtois and later heading over at the back post. Madrid regained control as the half progressed, while Audero denied Denzel Dumfries and later kept out efforts from Arda Güler and Mbappé.

Mbappé added his second in the first minute of stoppage time. Real Madrid midfielder Güler helped move the ball across the pitch before finding the French forward on the right, and Mbappé drove a powerful shot across Audero and into the bottom-left corner to make it 4-1.
