Scaloni pleads with Argentina fans as he is blocked from seeing DENTIST

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni had to plead with fans blocking his way to the DENTIST after returning home from the World Cup. Scaloni's side suffered heartbreak in last Sunday's final when they lost 1-0 to Spain in extra-time.

Argentina came into this summer's World Cup among the favourites, having won their last three tournaments under Scaloni. But Ferran Torres' late goal saw the trophy go to Spain, who dominated the final in New Jersey.

But the 48-year-old still came home to a hero's welcome. Supporters have even been camping on his garden lawn in the town of Pujato, close to Rosario.

Footage from a video which has gone viral shows Scaloni attempting to make his way through the adoring fans while security usher him to a car. The former West Ham defender gave high-fives to some children, while adults tried having a moment with their beloved boss.

"I have a dentist appointment," he can heard telling the crowd. "I will be back soon."

Scaloni has now left Pujato, with his family having to put a note on the door after fans continued to turn up. "Leo left last night!!! Thanks for all the love."

In a classy move, Scalno is said have come out of his house every afternoon to greet them. The Albiceleste manager signed autographs and posed for selfies with supporters of all ages.

Football fans on social media have been stunned by the warm reception. "It's as though they won the World Cup. Massive love," one posted on X.

"Best manager in their history," another concluded on Reddit. A third said: "Nice guy for doing all that for the fans. It seems overwhelming though, to have so many people surrounding him all the time."

One user agreed and wrote: "Bro literally can't go home without being hounded. That's gotta feel insane."

It's been an emotional eight days for Scaloni, who lifted the World Cup four years ago to earn himself immortality in his homeland. This year's final didn't go their way and Scaloni broke down in tears during his post-match press conference.

He posted a statement via Instagram on Monday, writing: "After an intense week where sadness intertwined with joy, tears with smiles, anguish with tranquillity, and nerves with calm, I can finally sit down to write a few words. Although you know I'm not big on social media, it might be the best way to get this message to you.

"All I can say is I'm sorry I couldn't bring home another trophy and give you a new reason to celebrate - something that, even if only for a few days, might have made you forget life's hardships.

"But I want you to focus on what we tried to show you through this group of players - my warriors, as I called them when speaking about them to my wife. The effort, the drive, the desire, the 'I can do it' attitude, refusing to give up (even when the odds are stacked against you).

"Giving your all (even when you have nothing left), weathering the cold showers of criticism (FROM PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW US), maintaining composure. And finding the will to stay on your feet when your legs no longer obey your brain…That is the true trophy.

"I am eternally grateful to my coaching staff, the players, the AFA staff - those who work quietly behind the scenes to ensure our comfort - and to each and every one of you for the affection you've shown us.

"P.S. Whoever has an Argentine friend has a treasure."
