Premier League star flips car onto roof in terrifying incident as club release statement

Hull City say new signing Sorba Thomas is "completely unscathed" after flipping his car onto its roof in a terrifying crash.

Pictures on social media on Friday morning showed his Land Rover Defender upside down on a residential street, with a member of the club's staff, understood to be manager Sergej Jakirovic, at the scene. The incident happened on Millhouse Wood Lane, close to Hull's training ground.

Hull said in a statement: "Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground.

"The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed."

Wales international Thomas joined The Tigers from Stoke on transfer deadline day for £10.5million. The 27-year-old winger has made two appearances for his new club, in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League and the 1-0 defeat by Sunderland in the Carabao Cup.

Hull are preparing to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League at 3pm on Saturday. Jakirovic's side have made a brilliant start to the campaign following their promotion via the Championship play-offs, beating Manchester United and Coventry before drawing with Aston Villa to occupy third place.

Jakirovic spoke about Thomas in his pre-match press conference on Thursday ahead of the trip to west London. "I don't have any doubt about Sorba because he made a difference in the Championship," he said.

"He is a left winger and we can use him inside like a left (sided) number 10. He knows football. He is very good in delivery and his end product is good. Also, he has very good set-pieces.

"He is sharp and has speed. Also, in defence, he is very responsible. I think he suits us a lot. Like always, I hope he can help us."

Thomas was named as Stoke's Player of the Year last season after contributing 10 goals and 13 assists in all competitions. His departure to Hull on deadline day caused a stir at the club, with sporting director Jon Walters forced to address the situation in a statement.

“Although we are naturally disappointed with the way it has ended after just one season, I do understand that Sorba had an opportunity to play in the Premier League which, over the past few days, he has expressed a firm desire to take," he said.

“We all thank him for his efforts last season and wish him well for the future.”
